Being baptized in the Jordan River

This is a special post that I’m sharing today!

I made the decision when I was 10 to be baptized, and I’ve done my best to follow after Christ my whole life. However, it’s really something special to be able to make that decision again, with my husband, as an adult, to recommit myself to Jesus Christ.

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Matthew 3:13‭-‬17 NIV

One of the sites we visited was a baptismal site on the Jordan River. Several people from our group, Matthew and myself included, had decided to get baptized. Baptism is the way to publicly partake in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, and to proclaim that it is only by his blood and grace that we are saved.

All of us wanted to proclaim Jesus as our savior and recommit our lives to him! I’m so thankful we were able to do that in such a special place.

This was right after the Jordan River tried to sweep me away, but Pastor Ayers and Matt saved me!

For Matthew, who was originally baptized into the Catholic church as a child, and with no recollection of that baptism, this was really a first for him and I’m so proud of him!

Every single day is a chance to recommit to God and to pray for his spirit to live within us. I know I need his grace and his spirit daily! Thanks again for reading!
